RISELabs , those wonderfully innovative folks over at Berkeley, have uplifted their Anna datatabase —a shared-nothing, thread-per-core architecture to achieve lightning-fast speeds by avoiding all coordination mechanisms—to become cloud-aware.

If we’re going to think about the ethics of data and how it’s used, then we have to take into account how data flows. Data, even “big data,” doesn’t stay in the same place: it wants to move. There’s a long history of language about moving data: we have had dataflow architectures, there's a great blog on visualization titled FlowingData , and Amazon Web Services has a service for moving data by the (literal) truckload.

One of my favorite part of JavaScript has always been mutability of objects. I loved that MooTools and likewise frameworks could modify native prototypes to enhance them with functionality we knew the language need; in fact, I credit MooTools with pushing the web forward. There are cases, however, where you don’t want an object to be modifiable; you don’t want values for existing properties to be changed, added, or removed.
