But, as soon as they walk out of the conference room and are “offstage,” they vocalize their true feelings and opinions to trusted colleagues. . These groups might mirror people’s roles – accounting, HR, sales, etc – or could be informal, reflecting friendships and other social connections.
As a software engineer or individual contributor, the next step in your career can be to become a principal engineer. The path to becoming a principal engineer at companies can feel unclear, which can inhibit individual engineering careers. By Ben Linders, Joy Ebertz, Pablo Fredrikson, Charlotte de Jong Schouwenburg
It seemed tailored to what actual work would be rather than what people aspired it to be like if they wanted to boast about it at a conference. The more time I spend in this industry, the more interested I get about that social aspect of our systems. A framing of systems as being both social and technical ( sociotechnical! )
Upon reflecting on the conference, and my experience now two months into my first software engineering job at LaunchDarkly, I wanted to share a smattering of thoughts with you as a woman in tech.
