One of the unintended consequences of distributed computing and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is that things get more complicated. Nutanix employs Map/Reduce, Cassandra , Paxos , and Zookeeper to create a “distributed everything” architecture. The most famous example of this is SONET, Synchronous Optical Network.

Traditionally, there’s been a structure in particular that was widely used: monolithic architecture. We’ll talk more on that later, but the important part is that that style of architecture is not longer viable enough to keep using. Microservices vs. SOA. It’s inefficient and messy. Any changes affect the entire structure.
