You see tenure is not synonymous with loyalty, but rather is more often a measure of compliance and survival. The mandates for compliance along with the accompanying maze of bureaucratic processes and procedures, will often take precedence over doing the right thing.
Just because something is written in a vision or mission statement, placed on a website, included in company collateral material, or frequently espoused by corporate leadership as a competitive value proposition doesn’t necessarily mean its true. found that the number of women in top executives positions in Canada has fallen over the past year from 37 women in the highest-paying executive jobs in 2006 to just 31 in 2007. In April 2007, Catalyst surveyed all of the FP 500 companies in Canada, and at the time, 15.1% are held by women (down from 6.9% in the prior year).
Getting people to exercise their choice of delivering excellence is #1 leadership challenge. Secondly, excellence has a lot to do with people’s motivation to do a great job. It is their choice. It starts with getting the right people and building the right culture. Finally, just like quality , excellence is a moving target. Don’t Kill It!

It’s amazing how simple things like using up your employees’ time and not giving them chances to take on new tasks can have such a negative impact on both your team and how they perceive your leadership.
