We grow up on stories, so do our belief system and our world view. Stories reinforce the belief system. Isn’t it better to take a more detached view of work; to see that you are only part of a bigger system? Then, seek to fully play your part in improving that system for the benefit of your customers? If I identify myself with my job and then lose that job through redundancy, what happens to my identity?
What key actions will help me to align myself to those values and belief system? Spread awareness of your quality beliefs and systems by designing e-bulletins or newsletters. Set up a reward and recognition system to promote right behaviors with respect to quality of products/services delivered to customers.
In performance appraisals, specifically mention the behaviors you have appreciated when reviewing overall performance. Bottom line : You form a strategic reward system when you integrate performance (results) and behavior (how those results were achieved). And far too little focus is given to coaching.
